How to make a Santa? Some artwork ideas for kids

06.12.2021

The time around Christmas is the perfect time to sit down with your little one and make unique Christmas decorations. You can make greeting cards, Christmas tree ornaments and Christmas trees. But today we will focus on making a Santa. Here are some ideas.

Thematic Christmas ornaments

Santa Claus is certainly the most iconic character directly associated with Christmas. No wonder your child wants to make Christmas tree ornaments or decorations using this particular theme. Santa can be crafted in several ways. The artwork is not complicated, but the help of parents or other adults will surely be appreciated, especially by preschoolers who have not fully developed their motor skills.

How to make a Santa? Some suggestions

Here are some suggestions for simple artwork to make a Santa with your child!

Paper Santa Claus

You will need a red plastic bottle, e.g. a shampoo bottle, a small organza bag or a piece of cloth, tissue paper, some cotton balls, scissors, a stapler, cotton wool, and paper circles: a smaller pink one, two larger black ones, and two largest white ones.

Preparation: At the bottom of the bottle, line the beard with cotton balls. Nose and eyes are formed from the prepared circles. A cap made of the organza bag or tissue paper is formed on top of the bottle and the edges are lined with cotton wool.

Paper Santa Claus

Materials:

coloured paper: red, light pink or skin coloured, black, and white sheets

a piece of cardboard

scissors

glue

optional cotton wool

Preparation: Cut out a large triangle from a piece of cardboard and roll it up into a cap. Then you need to line the cardboard with red paper. Attach a triangle of light pink or skin-coloured paper with glue in the middle of the piece of cardboard. The next step is to glue the eyes and nose on; just cut circles out of black, white and pink paper. Attach a beard below Santa's face with glue. It can be made of cotton wool or white paper. Put a smaller piece of cardboard pasted over with red paper over the tip of the cardboard. In this way, you will make a cap.

Santa made out of a plate

Materials:
a paper plate

coloured paper: red, light pink or skin-coloured

a black felt-tip pen

a sheet of white paper.

Preparation:The task is quite easy. You will need to cut out several pieces of paper:

• Santa's face - we use a pink paper circle for this

• Santa's cap - don't forget the white pom-pom and border,

• Beard,

• Eyes and nose.

Stick all the pieces one at a time onto the plate. It is of course a flat decoration. You can hang it on the wall.

It's a good idea to sit down with your child and make a Santa out of paper, a bottle or a plate. Such a decoration usually makes a great gift for a loved one, and you can also send it with a letter to Santa. There's no denying that a handmade ornament is also an opportunity to prepare a response from Santa to your child's letter! Using the Elfi website, you can personalize the content of the letter from Santa to your little one and, in the process, mention your child's artwork.
