Christmas window decorations

21.12.2022

Traditionally at Christmas we decorate the tree under which we find our Christmas presents. Although there are as many ideas for decorating the tree as there are families celebrating Christmas, most of us follow a similar pattern: lights, baubles and tinsel. But... the Christmas tree is just the beginning. To get in the festive mood, decorate windows and windowsills – maybe the balcony or garden as well. Today we’re focusing on Christmas window decorations. Window ornaments will make the room cosier, add variety and create a festive mood.

Christmas decorations for the window – artificial snow

Christmas usually brings to mind falling snow. The white landscape correlates beautifully with the festive mood and decorations. However, it doesn’t always snow at Christmas, so you can spray the window panes with artificial snow spray, which is confusingly similar to the real thing. Admittedly, you can’t use it to make a snowman, but it won’t melt on a sunny day. When decorating a window with artificial snow, you can go for minimalism and spray only the lower window frame, or use stencils to create interesting patterns on the glass: snowflakes or a snowman, Santa Claus, Christmas tree with presents.

Christmas window decorations – lights

When we are talking about Christmas decorations, we can’t forget about lights of all kinds. Lights can be placed on the curtain rod or attached to the curtains or windowsills.
Popular battery-operated led lights will be perfect. There are many variations available on the market in terms of both colours and shapes of lights – from baubles and snowflakes to clever figurines. There are also stencils available with Christmas motifs, such as a reindeer or the Star of Bethlehem, with lights arranged around it.
Christmas Eve is the shortest day of the year, and it gets dark quickly on this day. The advantage of this situation is that Christmas lights look fabulous in the dark. A window decorated with colourful lights will look great both inside the room and when viewed from outside.

Baubles not only on the Christmas tree – hanging Christmas decorations

A Christmas window decoration made from baubles is a great way to use up ornaments that didn’t fit on the Christmas tree. Baubles, pinecones, stars, snowmen and a cinnamon stick will help create a special atmosphere in any room in the house – the living room, bedroom or kitchen.
How do I attach decorations to the window? Transparent adhesive tape will be ideal. Instead of hanging the string of baubles on the Christmas tree branch, stick it with a piece of tape to the glass. Depending on your preference, you can hang one ornament or several. From a distance, the string will not be visible and the baubles can be arranged in interesting compositions.

How else to decorate your window and get in the full Christmas spirit

The perfect Christmas decorations? Everyone certainly has their own favourite decorations for the window, windowsill or Christmas tree. Ornaments in different styles and shapes will work well in different interiors. Which solutions are most popular?

  • branches decorated with baubles, pinecones, cinnamon sticks
  • decorations made of paper
  • Christmas lanterns
  • candles, for example in the shape of a Christmas tree
  • centrepieces
  • festive wreaths

Traditional Christmas window decoration

Many years ago, it was very popular to display Christmas decorations on the windowsill. Compositions made of spruce branches, lights and Christmas tree ornaments with a candle placed in the centre were the crowning glory of window Christmas decorations. Today, such decorations are coming back into fashion, but the candle is being replaced by a battery-operated light or lantern which has the same effect but is safer.
