My all-time favourite carols and Christmas songs

Try to imagine a world where Christmas would be without its glorious and inspiring music. I simply cannot. There are many songs that feel absolutely essential to the pre-Christmas period and Christmas itself. I'd like to share with you a list of my most beloved Christmas songs. May they accompany you during the Christmas season and warm your hearts on cold December days.

Carols - a beautiful symbol of Christmas

The tradition of singing carols has accompanied us since the dawn of time. There is no shortage of heart-touching melodies among these songs. "Mizerna, cicha" or "Lulajże Jezuniu" bring tears to my eyes no matter how many times I listen to them. But there are also carols that evoke inexplicable joy. The energy emanating from "Przybieżeli do Betlejem" or "Mędrcy świata monarchowie" fills all the singers, giving them a strong sense of hope. This was probably the original role of these Christmas songs, to move the heart and spirit. After all, they bring joyous news to all the people, which is supposed to spread peace and love.

Christmas songs for the youngest

Alongside the pathetic songs sung during the Christmas Eve dinner and the Midnight Service, there are also merry and cheerful songs performed by children. Who does not remember the carefree "Pada śnieg", sung while making Christmas decorations? And without "Choinko piękna jak las" it is impossible to imagine decorating a Christmas tree. These children's songs emphasise the spirit of Christmas and make both the preparations for it and Christmas itself a festive, family occasion. Oh, and the thrill and excitement of waiting for Santa! "Ding dong, ding dong spadł już śnieg" lets you believe that children's dreams can come true, because the grey-bearded saint has never disappointed. When the voices of the little ones resound in the twinkling glow of the Christmas tree lights, every heart begins to soften. Unbounded joy, accompanied by music, fills all homes and everyone inside them.

There are some songs that most of us recognise from the very first notes. For me, the number one choice would be  'Last Christmas' by Wham! No matter the criticism it gets every year, for me this romantic piece of music is an essential December classic.

On the other hand, 'Merry Christmas Everyone' by Shakin' Stevens and 'Let It Snow' by Dean Martin are my emergency songs during the seemingly never-ending pre-Christmas housework. These songs have so much positive energy that they just spur me right into action.

Beautiful melodies and moving lyrics of Christmas songs

Christmas songs have always touched me deeply. Sometimes it is because of the beautiful voice of the performer, as in the case of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', sung by the amazing Mariah Carey. Other melodies possess both a festive joy and a melancholic note at the same time. Just think about 'Feliz Navidad' - although it conveys nothing but wishes for a merry Christmas, José Feliciano's rendition has never failed to move me over the years.

I also can't imagine the December weeks without the song by De Su, 'Kto wie, czy za rogiem nie stoją Anioł z Bogiem'. The lyrics of this song always fill me with great optimism. When I hear it for the first time in late autumn, then I know that Christmas is drawing near.

Music - an indispensable part of Christmas

Can you imagine Christmas without music? Carols, pastorals, popular hits - they are an absolutely irreplaceable part of Christmas. From the first days of December all the way to January, they accompany us in our everyday lives and remind us just how special Christmas is.
