Before I set off on my annual journey in a sleigh full of presents, something just as important takes place. In my workshop, amidst the crunching snow and twinkling lights, I write letters to children from all corners of the world. These are no ordinary messages, however.

These are letters with a single purpose: to make a child feel truly seen, important and special.

Every letter that leaves my workshop in Lapland is crafted with the utmost care. The elves oversee every detail, and I personally ensure that every word goes straight to the child’s heart. It’s not a ready-made template – it’s a genuine, heartfelt message that makes the child feel seen and special.

• A personal greeting – I start with the child’s name, but I don’t stop there! I refer to the little one’s world, interests and everyday joys, making the letter feel like a conversation with a loved one.
• Sincere praise and kind words – I notice their efforts, small successes and good deeds. Even the little ones that sometimes escape adults’ notice.
• Secrets straight from my realm – I tell them what’s going on with the elves, which reindeer has been up to mischief again, and what the Christmas preparations look like. It’s these details that make the magic… real.
• Gentle guidance and encouragement – my letters are full of warm words that help children believe in themselves, be brave, helpful and kind – not just at Christmas, but every day.
