Lapland: Where exactly does Father Christmas live?

02.06.2025

Ho ho ho! Hello, dear friends!

Many of you are probably asking yourselves: where exactly does Father Christmas live? Well, today I have decided to unlock the secret and invite you to my magical corner of the world. Listen to the story of my hut and the house of my companions, the jolly elves. I invite you on a special journey.

Santa's cottage - everything you need to know

My house is located in the heart of Lapland, in northern Finland, not far from the Arctic Circle. It is here, amidst snowy forests, aurora borealis and frozen lakes, that my wooden hut stands. It has a large chimney, from which the smell of gingerbread and mulled lingonberry juice rises in December. And when night falls, everything lights up with thousands of magical lights - until the reindeer stop to stare.

Elven house

But I don't live here alone! Right next door to my house there is a village of elves. The elves are my most faithful helpers - they have their own house with cosy rooms, a large living room and a huge kitchen - because, as you know, they love to bake cookies.

We also have a gift factory nearby - this is where the real magic happens. The elves have ateliers where they design the toys, the production belt never stops, the hammers tap, the paper rustles and every gift goes into the right bag with a label. The elves are incredibly organised, they even have their own labelling and quality control system. If only you could see it!

The reindeer enclosure

Of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without my faithful reindeer. Their homestead is just over the hill. Rudolf, my bravest reindeer with the red nose, has his own house with heated hay. There is also a large playground where the reindeer train every day. To be in great shape on 24 December, they have to keep in shape all year round.

The whole village is surrounded by forests, where friendly owls, foxes and hares live. Sometimes they come up to the windows to listen to the elves playing bells or singing carols.

And if you are wondering whether it is possible to visit me - the answer is yes! In Rovaniemi, not far from my real home, there is my official headquarters open to visitors. Every year, children from all over the world come there to give me a hug, leave a letter or just sit on my lap and chat.

Lapland is my place on earth - magical, quiet, full of warmth, despite the cold. And although the world is changing, one thing remains certain: Father Christmas will always have a home here.

With a warm smile from under his grey beard,

Your Father Christmas of Lapland
