North Pole Recruitment: A Job with a Difference

10.10.2019

It’s the big guy himself that gets all the attention, but where would Santa be without his band of merry helpers?

When you think about it, there’s no way a chap even as cheerful as Santa could handle Christmas alone. Instead, he relies on an extensive workforce that’s surprisingly diverse. Of course, being an elf is something of a prerequisite, but there are countless key roles within Santa’s staff-force that rarely get the credit they deserve.

So, if you’ve ever wondered how things go down at the North Pole career-wise, here’s a brief look at a few of the roles Santa is recruiting for throughout the year:

Toymaker

Unsurprisingly, much of what takes place at the North Pole revolves around toy making. From toy cars to computers to teddy bears to drones, it’s the kind of all-action production line the likes of which you’ve never seen. As these guys are expected to put out tens of thousands of toys each day, nimble fingers and a keen eye for detail are fundamental requirements.

Designer

Of course, Santa also needs plenty of creative types to design these toys in the first place. Santa’s designers are based at the North Pole, though spent much of the year wandering the world researching new ideas in disguise. Chances are, you’ve come across a fair few of Santa’s designers over the years, without ever realising who you were actually looking at!

Chef

The chefs at the North Pole serve two very important purposes. First of all, there are the tons of candies and chocolates the world counts on every Christmas. Secondly, there’s the small matter of satisfying Santa’s big appetite, along with those of his entire work force. One of the most prolific roles at the North Pole, Santa relies on the skills and talents of hundreds of chefs to get the job done.

Security

You’d be surprised how many people would like nothing more than to infiltrate Santa’s workshop and steal his trade secrets. This is why safety and security is a serious issue at the North Pole, calling for the involvement of dozens of buff n’ burley elven security guards. If you thought all elves were tiny, cute and unassuming, think again – Santa’s security guards are huge!

Reindeer Keeper

One of the most prestigious positions every elf dreams of achieving, Santa’s reindeer keeper makes sure the entire herd is kept happy and healthy throughout the year. It’s also one of the most satisfying jobs at the North Pole – what could be more fun than spending your days hanging out with a bunch of magical reindeer?

Customer Service Operative

Ever wondered who processes the millions of letters sent to Santa every year? Or who makes the arrangements for Santa to record and send video messages? The answer – an enormous team of customer service operatives, sworn to do whatever it takes to ensure every letter to Santa is opened, read and responded to by the big guy himself.

Air Traffic Controller

Last but not least, getting Santa’s sleigh off the ground in the first place is the easy part. The tricky part is ensuring it doesn’t get in the way of the thousands of planes and helicopters already in the sky at the time. This is where Santa’s air traffic control team comes into play – one of the most challenging of all roles at the North Pole. It’s also the job of his air traffic controllers to ensure he’s never spotted, as he travels the world delivering toys and gifts to everyone on his ‘good’ list!
